Carys Phillips is trading the bright lights of London for the rural charm of the South West as she joins Exeter Chiefs ahead of the 2026/27 JAECOO Premiership Women’s Rugby season. This move marks a significant shift for the 33-year-old Wales international, who has swapped Harlequins for a new challenge with Exeter Chiefs.
A New Chapter for Phillips
Phillips, a seasoned player with 87 caps and 12 years of international experience, made her move from Worcester Warriors to Harlequins in 2023. Her arrival at Harlequins coincided with a disappointing season for the club, missing out on the play-offs in 2025/26. Despite this setback, Phillips made 15 appearances and scored four tries, showcasing her enduring skill and impact on the field.
Now, with the departure of Emily Tuttosi to a coaching role in Canada, Phillips sees an opportunity to shine. She expressed her enthusiasm for the move, stating, 'I really want to enjoy my rugby, and I believe Exeter will provide the perfect environment for that, while also allowing me to continue developing as a player.'
A Family Affair
Phillips' move to Exeter is not just a professional decision but also a personal one. In June, she represented the Barbarians against Wales at Allianz Stadium, becoming the first father-daughter duo to do so, alongside her father, Rowland.
